NBA G-League vs. Overseas: Which One is Better?

This NSFW video features a hurt G-League player talking down on the overseas career path and infrastructure. Check it out and I'll address it below.

While it is known worldwide that the NBA has the best talent in the world, a common misconception is that the G-League is the second best league in the world. That is incorrect.

The best talent that the G-League has to offer just lost to Spain's 5th best club. That should be an eye opener to all aspiring pro hoopers out there. Overseas ain't nothing to play with.

Shoutout to Malcolm Delaney, he's one of the coldest overseas players of this generation and he put it perfectly.

It's Harder to Play Overseas

Overseas players learn how to adapt their game to drastically new systems while having to be crazy efficient within their roles. We have to compete against foreign defensive schemes and the rules make it way harder to score (you saw the Olympics).

No defensive 3 seconds, constant ball pressure 94 feet, and the refs let you get handsy.

The ball moves faster which makes the overseas locals have super high IQ's because their decision making needs to be done at crazy speeds.

That ball swinging from one side to another so fast also makes it harder on us to play defense. The imports are usually the specialists so the locals are usually all pretty well-rounded and skilled.

Not to mention unpredictable economic standings, adapting to new cultures, and being away AWAY from family. It's not even a question which route is more challenging.

The G-League is hard too. It's definitely the second most athletic league in the world. But the roster turnover plus extremely young talent makes it watered down in my opinion. Also, the coaching makes it NBA-lite without the talent.

Those dudes are hoopers for sure but like I mentioned before, there is nothing sweet about overseas!

This is strictly from a basketball perspective. If y'all wanna talk money, let me know we can do that too.

Would you rather play in...

  • GLeague

  • Overseas
