How Much can you Make Overseas?

This has to be the most common question I receive as a professional basketball player. "What you make?" "Is it worth it?" "Is it sustainable?" "Are you rich?"
So this post is for all of the aspiring professional players that want to know what they are getting themselves into. Oh, and for the pocket watchers that are just nosey.
As a rookie overseas, you will not make enough money to be rich. In fact, you may not even make enough money to be considered "middle class". But what you have to remember is, your first contract (and contracts that follow) is an opportunity to prove that you are a high-earning player.
The only rookies that will make veteran level money are the ones who had major reputations in college. Most likely, they are the players that got drafted in the second round or standouts in summer league.
Most rookies will earn between $300- $3,000 (US dollar) per month. There are factors that play into these numbers. The main one being location.
Countries like Spain, Serbia, Finland will offer the bare minimum in your first season
but can be beneficial to your career long term.
Countries like France and Germany can offer more because their minimum for players is higher than most.
After your rookie year, if you build your career strategically and play well, you can make as high as $50,000- $100,000 per month.
Most players will never see those numbers. Most players will make around $6,000 per month in their highest earning month.
The longer your career, the more money you will make because overseas pays for experience. I know a lot of veterans who were making around $4,000 per month for most of their careers and after years of proving themselves, they are up to $25,000 per month.
In short, there is no right answer. It really depends on how well you play and what teams you play for.
